    A Community-Based Approach To Sharing Knowledge Before, During, And After Crisis Events: A Case Study From Thailand

    This study adopts a structuration perspective to examine the knowledge sharing activities within local communities using social media to combat the 7-month 2011 Thai food crisis using a qualitative case study. The crisis represented a unique situation wherein social media was used extensively during the most catastrophic food crisis in Thailand. Data were collected from focus groups and in-depth interviews with food victims, community leaders, NGOs, politicians, large enterprises, and Army leaders. The study divides the crisis event into three phases: pre-, during-, and post-crisis, treating each as both separate and interrelated, due to the changing information needs. The socialization and structuration theories were used as theoretical lenses to investigate how social media can play an important role in knowledge sharing activities in each phase of a crisis. The case study shows that social media can be adapted to fit the information and knowledge needs in each phase. This study's findings are useful and relevant for crisis managers, and clarify the potential usefulness of social media as a knowledge sharing tool during a crisis

    Understanding Physicians' Adoption Of Electronic Medical Records: Healthcare Technology Self-Efficacy, Service Level And Risk Perspectives

    Most developed countries across the globe are deploying electronic medical record (EMR) as one of the most important initiatives in their healthcare policy. EMR can not only reduce the problems associated with managing paper medical records but also improve the accuracy of medical decisions made by physicians and increase the safety of patients. Considering that physicians are the primary users of EMR, their willingness to use EMR is a critical success factor for EMR implementation in a hospital. This study aims to extend an individual-level information technology adoption model by incorporating three additional variables to investigate whether the individual characteristics of a physician affect EMR adoption. A field survey is conducted with a total of 217 physicians from 15 different academic medical centers and metropolitan hospitals for six weeks. Then, the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis results indicate that perceived service level is an important antecedent of perceived usefulness. Healthcare technology self-efficacy, perceived risk, and perceived service level are also important antecedents of perceived ease of use. This study is concluded with implications for academics, hospital managers, governments, and medical information service providers

    Critical Factors Predicting The Acceptance Of Digital Museums: User And System Perspectives

    Digital museums are replacing traditional museums to inspire individual growth and promote culture exchange and society enrichment. However, the benefits of using the traditional museum to inspire visitors and promote the local economy may be compromised in the digital museum. This study attempts to offer insights on digital museum adoption from user and system perspectives. We extended the technology acceptance model (TAM) by incorporating computer self-efficacy and personal innovativeness as individual variables and media richness as a system characteristic. We launched a full-scale study with 441 users of 3 weather museums in Taiwan. We had 327 valid responses, a 74% response rate, from our target population. We conducted a regression analysis to investigate the potential influence of independent variables on the adoption of digital museums. Our results showed that both user and system characteristics have a positive influence on perceived usefulness (PU). A proper consideration of these three constructs can increase a user’s PU and perceived ease of use (PEOU), thereby establishing a more positive attitude regarding the use of digital museums. Academic and practical implications concerning their adoption from user and system perspectives were drawn from these findings

    Affective and Social Factors Influencing the Continuance Intention of Using Social Technology for the Case-based Learning.

    The proliferation of social technology poses both a threat and an opportu- nity for the delivery of traditional case method learning in business schools. This paper extends the expectation confirmation model (ECM) to examine the possibility of delivering the case method learning via social technology. Our regression analysis shows that, in addition to affective factors, the social factor of information and knowledge sharing can help improve the accuracy of predicting a student’s continuance intention of using social technology in case method learning. The analysis result leads to theoretical and empirical findings for business schools to consider adopting social technology as the next-generation tool for case method teaching

    Enterprise environmental factors (EEF) and organisational process assets (OPAs) are important inputs for most of the processes in all project management knowledge areas. This study assesses the effect of three important EEF and OPA input factors, project organisational support, project control and contingency planning, and project management processes, on project baseline and planning management. In addition, this study also investigates how much of an influence that effective project baseline and planning management has on company performance. Data were collected from 93 certified project management professionals (PMPs) registered with the Project Management Institute (PMI) in China. Our findings showed that firms that develop company-wide organisational support systems and company-wide procedures and processes for managing projects within an operations organisation do better in their overall performance

    The Impact Of Information Richness On Information Security Awareness Training Effectiveness

    In recent years, rapid progress in the use of the internet has resulted in huge losses in many organizations due to lax security. As a result, information security awareness is becoming an important issue to anyone using theInternet. To reduce losses, organizations have made information security awareness a top priority. The threemain barriers to information security awareness are: (1) general security awareness, (2) employees’ computerskills, and (3) organizational budgets. Online learning appears a feasible alternative to providing information security awareness and countering these three barriers. Research has identified three levels of security awareness: perception, comprehension and projection. This paper reports on a laboratory experiment thatinvestigates the impacts of hypermedia, multimedia and hypertext to increase information security awareness among the three awareness levels in an online training environment. The results indicate that: (1) learners who have the better understanding at the perception and comprehension levels can improve understanding at the projection level; (2) learners with text material perform better at the perception level; and (3) learners withmultimedia material perform better at the comprehension level and projection level. The results could be used by educators and training designers to create meaningful information security awareness material

    The Effects Of Discount Pricing And Bundling On The Sales Of Game As A Service: An Empirical Investigation

    Although many prior studies have discussed the effect of discount pricing and product bundling on sales, few investigated the effect on Game as a Service (GaaS) applications, which has been rapidly growing in the IT industry. We investigate the effect by adopting large empirical market data, including 112,858 observations of 5,570 GaaS applications in the theoretical perspective of perceived value, price fairness, expected utility, and competitive intensity. We found that both discount pricing and bundling have positive effects on the daily sales of the applications. Specifically, discount rate and the amount of discounted price (i.e., reduced price) have positive relationships with the sales increase, while the effect of discount pricing decreases as more discount deals are available in the market. However, we did not find a significant interaction effect of bundling on the relationship between discount rate and the sales increase

    Voice over Internet Protocol- (VoIP) enabled online learning service providers struggling with high attrition rates and low customer loyalty issues despite VoIP’s high degree of system fit for online global learning applications. Effective solutions to this prevalent problem rely on the understanding of system quality, information quality, and individual beliefs about the usefulness of this technology. This research aims to provide insights into increasing the loyalty of users to VoIP-enabled global learning programs from the perspectives of information systems (IS) success and control belief. A theoretical model is proposed to integrate seven major constructs of IS success and planned behavior theory. We tested our model using the path analysis of data collected from an experiment where 66 undergraduate students from the USA and Taiwan worked in pairs using Skype to improve their English and intercultural communication skills. Data analysis results showed that information quality and perceived behavioral control are much more important than system quality in increasing satisfaction with the use of Skype. An increase in user satisfaction can lead to an improvement in intercultural communication competence and to increased user loyalty. Theoretical and practical implications are drawn from the findings to conclude this study

    Medical Knowledge Discovery Systems: Data Abstraction And Performance Measurement

    Knowledge discovery systems can be traced back to their origin, artificial intelligence and expert systems, but use the modern technique of data mining for the knowledge discovery process. To that end, the technical community views data mining as one step in the knowledge discovery process, while the non-technical community seems to view it as encompassing all of the steps to knowledge discovery. In this exploratory study, we look at medical knowledge discovery systems (MKDSs) by first looking at three examples of expert systems to generate medical knowledge. We then expand on the use of data abstraction as a pre-processing step in the comprehensive task of medical knowledge discovery. Next, we look at how performance of a medical knowledge discovery system is measured. Finally, the conclusions point to a bright future for MKDSs, but an area that needs extensive development to reach its full potential

    Critical Success Factors For The Implementation Of Integrated Healthcare Information Systems Projects: An Organizational Fit Perspective

    Many healthcare reforms are to digitalize and integrate healthcare information systems. However, the disparity of business benefits in having an integrated healthcare information system (IHIS) varies with organizational fit factors. Critical success factors (CSFs) exist for hospitals to implement an IHIS successfully. This study investigated the relationship between the organizational fit and the system success. In addition, we examined the moderating effect of five CSFs -- information systems adjustment, business process adjustment, organizational resistance, top management support, and the capability of key team members – in an IHIS implementation. Fifty-three hospitals that have successfully undertaken IHIS projects participated in this study. We used regression analysis to assess the relationships. The findings of this study provide a roadmap for hospitals to capitalize on the organizational fit and the five critical success factors in order to implement successful IHIS projects
